Your composition book needs to have Warmups and notes, and follow the guidelines given. I will only grade work if I can find it where it belongs, and if I can read it. If you lose a paper, you can find most of them somewhere on the links below. If you were absent, please check the Absent Bin in class and use this website to get caught up.
What goes in it?
1) Glued in Warm-up Slips
2) Written down homework for each day 3) Work and answers for Warmup Questions 4) Class Notes 5) Begin new notes/warmups on a NEW page. Your warmups and notes will be graded for completion, effort, and accuracy! |
How do I set up the Warmup part?
Click HERE to see how to set up the Warmup portion of the composition notebook. You do not need to use a new page for each day's Warm-up Slip. You can just draw a line with a highlighter underneath where your old warmup (or notes) ends and then continue on from there.

How do I set up the Notes part?
Click HERE to see how to set up the Notes portion of the composition notebook. You do not need to use a new page for each day's Notes. You can just draw a line with a highlighter underneath where your old warm-up (or notes) ends and then continue on from there. You can take notes in any "format" you want - bullets, pictures, outline, etc. BUT you must include the required elements when finished. You must include a title, three additional colors, and your "KCQ" boxes. Click the link above for more information.
How is it graded?
Click HERE and HERE to see a generic rubric for your composition notebook. This is only to give you a general idea to think about. The actual grading sheet and points may be different depending on what chapter we are on, when in the grading period we are, etc. The general 0-3 pattern in the rubric will be the best way to figure out the quality of your work. Warm-ups may be graded either daily in class, at the end of the class period, end of the week, end of the chapter, or after the test. It just depends on how much time we have that day/week/month. Be prepared for them to be graded during class each day!
Can I do my homework in it too?
You can use your composition notebook for extra practice, or as a place to write down questions you want to ask me, etc. if you would like! Just make sure you are clear with what it is so I know what I am looking at when I grade your composition notebook. Also realize if you use it for other things you may run out of space and need a second one!
Can I use passes to earn points back?
You can use tickets or passes to earn back points from missed Warmups or incomplete notes. One pass for one assignment. However, if you forget your entire composition notebook the day it is collected then you cannot use a pass or tickets for that unless you have a "Notebook Check Pass."
